Titanium Wire

Titanium wire is typically used in the chemical processing industry and anodized for hanging parts or components or when an item requires being tied down. Our Titanium wire is also great for racking systems that require strong materials.
Benefits of Titanium Wire
Durability and Strength
Titanium wire is known for its exceptional strength. Compared to other materials like stainless steel, titanium wire is stronger and more durable; it also has a high resistance to corrosion, fatigue, and heat, and it can maintain this strength even under extreme temperatures. With such durability, titanium wire is suitable for aircraft components requiring excellent mechanical properties.
Lightweight
Another advantage of using titanium wire is its lightweight nature. Compared to other metals typically used in the industry, titanium wire offers a much lower density, which makes it a perfect choice for components that need to be lightweight.
High Machinability
The high machinability of titanium wire is another benefit that makes it popular. Being a soft metal, titanium wire is easier to shape, forming complex geometries that would otherwise be difficult to achieve with other materials. This capability makes creating customized parts possible, reducing the time and cost of manufacturing parts.
Temperature Stability
When it comes to components, stability under various temperatures is essential. Titanium wire has a low coefficient of thermal expansion to maintain its shape and size even as temperature changes. This makes titanium wire particularly useful in high-temperature applications or components subject to sudden and extreme temperature fluctuations.
Resistant to Corrosion
Titanium wire is an excellent choice for components exposed to corrosive chemicals or saltwater environments since it boasts a high corrosion resistance.
Application of Titanium Wire
At present, more than 80% of titanium and titanium alloy wires are used as welding wires, such as welding various titanium equipment, welding pipes, repair welding of turbine discs and blades of aircraft jet engines, and welding receivers.

Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, titanium wire has been widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, and paper industries. It can be made into a mesh for seawater filters, purified water filters, and chemical drug filters.
Titanium and titanium alloy wires are also used to manufacture fasteners, load-bearing members, springs, etc. due to their good overall performance.

In the electroplating and water treatment industries, titanium and titanium alloy wires are used to manufacture various electrodes.
In the medical and health industry, due to their excellent biocompatibility, titanium and titanium alloy wires are used to manufacture medical devices, such as dental crown fixation and skull fixation implanted in the human body.

Some titanium alloy wires with shape memory function, such as titanium-nickel alloy wires, are used to make satellite antennas, shoulder pads for clothes, women’s bras, and eyeglass frames.
Production Process of Titanium Wire
Raw Material Preparation
The first step is to obtain high-quality titanium metal. Titanium is usually extracted from its ore, such as rutile or ilmenite, through processes like extraction and purification. The titanium metal is then formed into a suitable shape for further processing.
Melting
The titanium metal is melted in a furnace under controlled conditions to achieve the desired purity and composition. This is usually done using methods like vacuum arc melting or electron beam melting.
Casting
The molten titanium is cast into ingots or billets, which are solidified blocks of metal. The size and weight of the ingots depend on the specific requirements of the coiled wire being produced.
Hot Working
The titanium ingots are then subjected to hot working processes such as forging or rolling. This involves deforming the metal at high temperatures to reduce its thickness and shape it into the desired form. Hot working helps refine the microstructure of the metal and improve its mechanical properties.
Annealing
After hot working, the titanium wire is typically annealed to relieve internal stresses and improve its ductility. Annealing involves heating the wire to a specific temperature and then slowly cooling it. This process helps eliminate any defects introduced during hot working and ensures the wire's dimensional stability.
Cold Drawing
The annealed titanium wire is then cold-drawn through a series of dies to further reduce its diameter and improve its mechanical properties. Cold drawing involves pulling the wire through progressively smaller dies, which elongates and thins the wire while also increasing its strength and surface quality.
Coiling
Once the desired diameter is achieved, the titanium wire is coiled onto spools or reels. Coiling is typically done using specialized machinery that winds the wire tightly and uniformly onto the spool.
Surface Treatment
Depending on the intended application, the titanium coiled wire may undergo additional surface treatments such as cleaning, pickling, or passivation. These treatments help remove any impurities or oxide layers on the wire's surface, ensuring its corrosion resistance and improving its overall quality.
Surface Treatment of Titanium and Titanium Alloys

Sandblasting
For titanium castings, a coarse sandblasting treatment is usually preferable. The blasting pressure is generally controlled below 0.45 MPa. Excessive blasting pressure may cause intense sparks when sand particles impact the titanium surface, leading to increased temperature and potential reaction with the titanium surface, resulting in secondary pollution and affecting surface quality.
Acid Washing
Acid washing is capable of rapidly and completely removing the surface reaction layer without introducing contamination from other elements to the surface.
Mechanical Grinding
Titanium's high chemical reactivity, low thermal conductivity, and high viscosity result in low grinding and cutting efficiency during mechanical grinding. Regular abrasives are unsuitable for titanium's grinding and polishing. It's best to use highly thermally conductive superabrasives like diamond. The polishing line speed generally ranges from 900 to 1800m/min to prevent surface grinding burns and microcracks on titanium surfaces.
Ultrasonic Grinding
Ultrasonic vibration causes relative movement between the abrasive grains and the surface being polished or ground, facilitating the grinding and polishing process.
Electrochemical Mechanical Compound Grinding
This method employs conductive abrasives along with electrolyte and voltage application between the abrasive and the surface. Through combined mechanical and electrochemical action, it reduces surface roughness and enhances surface glossiness.
Barrel Grinding
Utilizes centrifugal force generated by the rotation and revolution of a grinding barrel, allowing friction between the barrel's contents and abrasives to reduce surface roughness. This method is automated and efficient but only reduces surface roughness and doesn't enhance surface glossiness.
Chemical Polishing
Achieves leveling and polishing through oxidation-reduction reactions of metals in a chemical medium. Chemical polishing is not dependent on metal hardness, polished area, or structural shape. It doesn't require complex equipment and is straightforward to operate.
Factors to Consider Before Choosing a Titanium Wire

Grade of Titanium
Determine the required grade or alloy of titanium wire based on the application. Commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) and various titanium alloys offer different properties suitable for diverse environments.
Corrosion Resistance
Assess the environment in which the wire will be used. Titanium's corrosion resistance is excellent, but specific grades offer enhanced resistance to certain chemicals or conditions.
Strength and Durability
Consider the required strength and durability for your application. Different titanium grades offer varying levels of strength and mechanical properties.
Size and Diameter
Select the appropriate wire size and diameter based on the application's needs. Titanium wire comes in various thicknesses, and the choice depends on the intended use.
Surface Finish
Determine if a specific surface finish or coating is required for your application. Surface treatments like polishing, coating, or anodizing can enhance performance or appearance.
Customization and Special Requirements
If your application demands specific tolerances, dimensions, or custom features, verify if the supplier offers customization options.
